Pushing Past Dependence and Living Outside of the Comfort Zone

EP. 57 “For me, dependence comes from wanting things to be a certain way as opposed to transforming myself into someone that can thrive regardless of what the situation is.”

Can you believe we’re a few days away from 2019? This week’s episode is our last show of the year and has a bit of a different spin on it.

It’s a solo reflection from yours truly. I really wanted to take some time to connect with you and share a few reflections I had from such an incredibly busy year.

2018 was a big year for me. It came with a lot of change, growth and a lot of lessons that I’m grateful to have experienced so early in my entrepreneurial journey. This was my first full year as an entrepreneur, and one that that redefined what it means push the limits of fear and comfort.

In this episode, I talk to you a bit about my journey in 2018 – the highs, the lows and all that fell in between. I also share with you the 7 Questions that I use for my end of year process to wrap up 2018 and set up 2019 for incredible growth.

Thank you all for taking this journey with me. We’ll be back in 2019 bigger and better, helping you to create a life that you love. Stay Grounded kicks off 2019 with a lot of amazing new content, Monday through Friday, to be a key resource in supporting you and your goals.

[2:29:] 7 Questions for 2018 Reflection

The 7 questions I used to reflect on and provide closure to the events of 2018 and to plan for 2019. I used them for an end of year reflection, however, they can be applied to any life situation where closure is needed: graduations, new jobs, new cities etc.

7 Questions for End of Year Reflection

  1. 1. Who or what would you like to acknowledge?
  2. 2. What would you like to acknowledge yourself for?
  3. 3. What would you like to let go of moving into 2019?
  4. 4. What did you love most about 2018?
  5. 5. What would you want more of or want to be different in 2019?
  6. 6. What would you need to feel complete closure in 2018?
  7. 7. What’s next for you, right now?

[4:58] I kick off the discussion on dependence and how it keeps me tied to my comfort zone. Most of my growth this year has come from me pushing beyond that comfort space – it wasn’t always easy, but it was key to my success.

[5:45] “All of the pain that growth caused led to a lot of lessons, but for me, the dependence on comfort caused suffering.”

Every time I went into a situation outside my comfort zone, wishing it were different, I would suffer. That suffering removed my ability to see the opportunity in a situation, leaving me powerless to make changes, adapt and take action. It just kept me in a state of wanting things to be different.

[7:43] In 2019 and beyond, I want to be able to move forward with complete trust in myself. I want to have a solid faith that I have the ability to create comfort wherever and whenever I need to.
